Haula is a soul-baring RnB doyenne whose anthemic approach and sultry production are getting tastemakers’ ears twitching up and down the country.

The Ugandan-born, London-based soloist is a classically trained pianist who has recently turned her hand to deep, dark pop and gut-wrenching soul.

It’s an addictive mix that leaves plenty of room for her strong, unflinching vocals and candid songwriting.

With just a handful of tracks under her belt, she’s already caught the attention of Huw Stephens and won support from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and 1Xtra.

She’s now back in the studio writing and recording new material, with releases scheduled for later this year.

I first started making music because…
By accident at a local carnival in Oxford when I jumped up on stage and started singing Mariah Carey’s Dream Lover. After that, I was hooked! Songwriting came about after a break-up. It was my pain relief and release. I suddenly had a lot to say and was brave or vulnerable enough to let it out.

I have been making music since…
I started trying my hand at writing in 2013 but didn’t do my first recording until early 2015. It’s a long process to weed out the great songs and find the right people to work with.

My music is…
An amalgamation of atmospheric, dark pop/RnB with all the feels!

You’ll like my music if you listen to…
Lana Del Rey, London Grammar, BANKS. I’ve also had comparisons to Florence and the Machine and Anya!

My favourite venue is…
The Royal Albert Hall! I love the majesty of it all.

Music is important because…
It’s heavenly divination. To me, music is the way we connect to each other, it’s a life saver, it’s love and hate. Music is everything!

My biggest inspiration is…
Nina Simone and Queen Beyonce! Powerful and unapologetic.

My dream collaboration would be…
The Queen B! I dream big.

To try me out, listen to my track…
Good to You / Darkest Hour.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Music is plan A-Z but after that I would be an actress! I was made for the stage.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Touring the world, playing and recording music I love and working with the best of the best in the music industry but would of course settle for being a superstar!
