A cutting edge fast track to writing great songs

Who? The Graceland gang comprises of Rosie Arnold on guitar, organ and vocals, Ellie Jones on guitar and vocals, Stevie Gedge on bass and PRS for Music Foundation’s very own Maxie Gedge on drums.

What? Perfect fuzz-pop.

From where? Norfolk.

What’s the story? One glance at their SoundCloud account will confirm these ‘sisters of the East’ haven’t been in the music-making game together for long.

But what they lack in recording hours they more than make up for with ideas, energy and post-punk buzz.

Riffing on the classic four-piece line-up, their ultra-lean rhythm section and efficient hooks are an impressive exercise in acerbic, austerity-era no-wave.

All sharp elbows and crunchy choruses, the quartet temper their angst with the tuneful twang of guitars and sugar-sweet melodies.

They’re fast building a reputation for no-prisoners live shows, which have included stints at Bestival, Norwich Sound and Vision, and London’s den of garage-rock iniquity The Old Blue Last.

The band are also starting to get picked up at radio, with DJ Gemma Cairney, Rob Da Bank and BBC Introducing Norfolk pledging early support.

Following a couple of SoundCloud ‘demos’ – which are waaay more realised than their tag suggests – they’ll be dropping their debut single Fleetwood on 9 December.

We’ll be giving the track its first airing on Soho Radio today, 28 November (tune into the M show live from 2pm to 4pm here).

Produced by Spring King’s Tarek Musa, it’s a riff-heavy offer that bends the sounds of Savages, The Breeders and The Birthday Party into fresh new shapes. Don’t miss it!

Sounds like? The Raincoats jamming with Martha and the Muffins.

Predicted to? Have a fab 2017, with more recording sessions and live dates around the country sure to keep them busy.

Must hear? Ahead of the release of their ace debut single Fleetwood, get yourself over to their SoundCloud page and check out Cyclone and Jackdaw.
