The American Youth Symphony was completely in synch with a LIVE to picture perfect performance of renowned BMI composer Alan Silvestri’s score to the iconic film Back to the Future Sunday night at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The BMI-sponsored concert, which was conducted by award-winning BMI composer/conductor David Newman, was a fundraiser for the important work AYS does to inspire the future of classical music. Competitively selected, musicians ages 15-27 receive a tuition-free scholarship, per-concert stipends and perform at renowned venues such as Royce Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall, working alongside world-class guest artists including such illustrious BMI composers as John Williams, David Newman and Alan Silvestri – all in preparation for the fellows’ leadership in 21st-century orchestras and ensembles.
