While the main Sugar Mountain lineup includes established names like Dro Carey, Blood Orange, Big Scary and Jaala, the Boiler Room lineup reflects the festival’s interest in exploring electro and the dance underground.
Leading the Boiler Room charge is America’s Mood II Swing, AKA John Ciafone and Lem Springsteen. The pair of producers are perhaps best known for their thumping track Move Me, released to much acclaim back in 2008, and have spent the last few years slowly developing a host of ardent fans.
Italian “disco god” Beppe Loda is also set to appear, as is Melbourne’s own mustachioed muso Tornado Wallace. Elsewhere, German/English export Palms Trax will be blowing minds with his mix of Detroit-influenced beats and powerful songwriting, while local rabble-rouser CC:DISCO! is also set to impress.
The famously odd Baba Stiltz (of Cherry fame) will also be laying down a set, and one can only assume that his mix of genres and gnarly, wild-eyed sense of creative abandon will prove even more thrilling in the live setting.
Better still, come the 2017 iteration of the event, the Boiler Room stage will relocate to a somewhat larger space, and will now take up the area previously occupied by the Car Park stage. Certainly, that means that one can expect bigger crowds, but the festival have worked hard to assure all punters that the intimate vibe that has long defined sets at the Boiler Room stage will not be lost.
How’s that, hey? Pretty unbeatable. Catch the full Sugar Mountain Boiler Room lineup, below.
