Footage has emerged of Linkin Park members Chester Bennington and Brad Delson performing a haunting rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ at Chris Cornell‘s funeral this past weekend.

The legendary grunge pioneer was laid to rest at a private ceremony in Los Angeles, attended by his family and close friends in both the music and film industries, including his surviving Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of the Dog bandmates.

Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington previously paid tribute to his “friend” and “inspiration” Chris Cornell in a heartbreaking open letter, saying: “You have inspired me in many ways you could never have known. Your talent was pure and unrivalled. Your voice was joy and pain, anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped into one. I suppose that’s what we all are. You helped me understand that… I can’t imagine a world without you in it.”

You can watch footage of Linkin Park’s heartfelt rendition of ‘Hallelujah’, a song made famous by Cornell’s friend Jeff Buckley, who also died under tragic circumstances, below.

Cornell was laid to rest near Johnny Ramone in Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s Garden of Legends, with his gravestone reading: “Voice of our generation and an artist for all time.”

“Chris was as melodic as The Beatles, as rocking as Sabbath and as haunting as Edgar Allan Poe,” Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello told mourners during his heartfelt eulogy at the service (via TVNZ).
