David Bowie collaborators, friends and fellow musicians are set to come together to celebrate his 70th birthday with a series of worldwide tribute shows.

As The Guardian reports, the events will take place on his birthday, 8th January, 2017 in locations around the world that Bowie had a connection with.

30 core musicians will be included in the shows as well as 40 local musicians, all coming together to “create a sound like no other”.

So far, only the London show has been announced but it’s a pretty stunning lineup that will be gracing the stage in honour of the late superstar. Gary Oldman, who has been involved in a number of Bowie tributes this year, will perform alongside a cast of Bowie’s band members. They’re teasing many more special guests to be announced in the lead-up to the events.

It will go down at the O2 Academy in Brixton which is Bowie’s birthplace with all proceeds from the gig going to British charity Children & The Arts.

No other locations have been confirmed as of yet with the announcements expected to be made “sporadically” in the lead-up to the event.

It’s unknown yet whether Australia will host one but we’re already hosting a tribute on that date. The ‘Bowie In Berlin’ tribute shows, celebrating his work from the late ’70s with Aussie musos, will run over four dates in early 2017 with Melbourne getting the show on his birthday.
