Michael Seary is a twenty-something musician, producer and DJ, fast becoming one of Liverpool’s most enticing musical hopes.

Discovered via the Liverpool International Music Festival’s (LIMF) Academy in 2015, his debut single, Can’t Say It Back, caused a major splash, fusing electronics with soulful drum’n’bass.

The collaboration with vocalist Luke Cusato saw the pair winning praise from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1Xtra and Radio X. Now working on a forthcoming experimental EP, hopes are high for this new talent…

I first started writing music because…
I wanted to know how everything was made on a record. I have always thought to myself ‘how did they do that?’

I have been making music since…
I was in my final year of high school. My first taste of making music was on an old PlayStation game called Music 2000. The game consisted of a lot of loops that you could layer and piece together to make a song. From what I can remember my productions on there were terrible but I was so happy with them because I felt as if I had created something.

My music is…
A blend of euphoric chords, rolling bass lines and solid drums. When I make music I always try to capture my current emotions in the creative and recording process to allow the listener to feel how I felt at that particular time.

You’ll like my music if you listen to…
Artists like Deadmau5, Netsky and Flume.

My favourite venue is…
One that I’ve played in myself in Liverpool called Hi Fi/40 Seel Street. I remember I did a show there a while back and it had a Void sound system. My set sounded so crisp and the energy the crowd had was infectious.

Music is important because…
It is universal. Regardless of where you’re from or what social group you fit into there will always be link whether it be a particular track or artist that everyone can relate to.

My biggest inspiration is…
The potential of what’s next! I want to see where I can push myself to by tapping in to something inside my head that I never thought I could do.

My dream collaboration would be…
With Deadmau5, Mike Skinner, Lykke Li and Kendrick Lamar. It would be a huge mishmash of musical ideas but I’d like to think that collectively we could make a great record together!

To try me out, listen to my song…
Can’t Say It Back featuring Luke Cusato. This single best represents myself as an artist and what you can expect from me as it is a blend of big chords, soft pianos and energetic drums.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Watching The Office, drinking tea and wishing I was David Brent!

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Making a living from my career as a producer/musician/DJ and to be watching some rubbish TV with my girlfriend whilst drinking a nice cup of tea.
