Bill Ryder Jones has been named as the winner of the GIT (Getintothis) Award, a prize celebrating Liverpool’s music scene.

Taking place at Constellations in the city on Saturday (14 May), the awards were founded by Liverpool music blog Getintothis and have been described as the ‘Scouse Mercury Prize’.

The former Coral member, now turned solo artist was recognised for his latest album, West Kirby County Primary.

Other winners on the night included Atlantic Records’ pop starlet Taya who received the One to Watch Prize, following in the footsteps of Louis Berry and Lapsley.

Liverpool Vision’s Kevin McManus received the Inspiration Award, an award which has previously gone to The Kazimier, Hillsborough Justice Collective, Africa Oye and Deltasonic founder Alan Wills.

Past GIT Award winners include Loved Ones (2012), Baltic Fleet (2013), Forest Swords (2014) and All We Are (2015).

While Bill was not on hand to collect his prize, family friend Steve Power received it on his behalf on the night.

Watch Bill live in our session at the Lexington, playing a version of favourite Two to Birkenhead.
