Dave Grohl is known to be one of the nicest guys in rock but it turns out not everyone is a fan.
Ex-Foo Fighters drummer William Goldsmith who played with the band from 1995 to 1997 is salty because of something Grohl did while they were recording their 1997 record The Colour And The Shape.
Goldsmith says that Grohl, who is a drummer himself, re-recorded all of his parts without telling him and he’s not happy at all about it, some 20 years later.
“Apparently Dave was going to re-record a few of the songs. I don’t know if the producer told him to keep going, or what. But the next thing you know all of the work I had done was gone except for one or two of the tracks,” he told The Daily Mail.
In the end, he only ended up on ‘Doll’, ‘Up In Arms’ and ‘My Poor Brain’, however, he claims that he was never credited for his work on the latter.
He said the whole experience left him feeling as if he’d been creatively, “raped”.
“I would have been cool if it had been half me and half him,” he continued.
“It was brutal and I think maybe the producer was hoping I would give up but I didn’t.”
Despite this, Grohl allegedly still wanted him to be in the band and tour with them. He did tour with them for a while but reached breaking point in December 1997.
“For me, to have that done to you and to continue playing live would have been damaging to my soul,” he said.
He further thinks that Grohl is, “like the kid who is popular but is mean and everyone likes them.”
He also believes that he has an, “inability to allow people to collaborate with him,” because he was frustrated about Kurt Cobain having a very particular way of doing things when he was in Nirvana.
Taylor Hawkins took over after Goldsmith left and it’s worked out very well for them because he’s still in the band to this day.
It’s not all bad news for Goldsmith. He still receives royalty payments of up to $1,100 every six months.
