A cutting edge fast track to writing great songs

Interview: Villagers

Villagers is the artistic endeavour of Irish songsmith Conor O’Brien, a double Ivor Novello Award winner who’s quietly changing the singer songwriter template from the inside.

Signed to Domino Records in the UK, he’s been left largely to his own devices, gently concocting an electro-acoustic tangle of raw melody and exceptional songcraft since 2010.

And now he’s got another accolade to add to his collection: the coveted Album Award at The Ivors 2016 for his album Darling Arithmetic.

We caught up with him on the red carpet at the 61st Ivor Novello Awards to learn more about his music-making and how he avoids the notorious ‘follow-up record’ pressure…
