Kiran Leonard unveils new musical direction

Original article from:

Songwriting prodigy Kiran Leonard has unveiled details of his second album, which will be comprised of five movements for piano, strings and voice.

The Derevaun Seraun LP will feature lead single, Living With Your Ailments, a seven-minute opus inspired by French philosopher Albert Camus’ 1942 essay The Myth of Sisyphus.

Leonard said of the track: ‘I read it for the first time as an unhappy, nervous 17-year-old and I found it deeply moving and comforting.

‘It is an essay about taking the cards we are dealt – mortality, nothingness, uncertainty – and doing our best with them, in humour and in optimism and in open-mindedness.

The album, which lands on 15 September via Moshi Moshi, follows his 2016 critically acclaimed debut Grapefruit.

Leonard will tour the album later this year, inviting a string trio to perform the record in full. The dates include a night at London’s St. Pancras Old Church on 20 September, when there will be two performances.
