PRS Foundation’s International Showcase Fund is supporting a record 37 UK artists to perform at this year’s SXSW festival.
Artists to receive help to travel and perform at the international showcase in Austin, Texas, include Anna Meredith (pictured), GoGo Penguin, Flamingods, Let’s Eat Grandma, Dream Wife and Doe.
Other acts include She Drew the Gun, Sarathy Korwar, Muncie Girls and The Japanese House.
This year’s cohort also represents the most urban artists to be supported through the fund to perform at SXSW, including Dave, Frisco, Fifi Rong, Safone and Rude Kid.
It’s also the first time Scottish and Welsh artists are being supported alongside English bands, with Spinning Coin, Happy Meals and The Spook School representing Scotland, and Meilyr Jones, The Sandinistas and Chain of Flowers from Wales.

The Foundation has attributed its International Showcase Fund expansion to fresh contributions from PPL, Creative Scotland and Wales Arts, who have joined the Department for International Trade, British Underground, Arts Council England, Musicians Union’ and Pledge Music as fund partners.
Vanessa Reed, chief executive of PRS Foundation, said: ‘Through new partnerships this year with PPL, Creative Scotland and Wales Arts International we are able to reach more talented artists than ever before and to respond to their increasing demand for support to attend this career changing, North American industry event.
‘Over 150 UK artists have been invited to attend SXSW this year, demonstrating that British music is in high demand and remains one of the UK’s greatest success stories on an international stage. I look forward to following the exceptionally diverse range of artists we’re funding this year – from jazz and urban to indie and electronic, and the business and creative step-change they can achieve through their trip.’
SXSW 2017 takes place from 10 to 19 March, showcasing hundreds of artists from around the world.
