Singer songwriter Lapsley (pictured), veteran publisher Paulette Long and artist manager Martha Kinn were among those honoured at the 2016 Women In Music Awards.
Lapsley won the PRS for Music Foundation New Artist Award while Years & Years’ manager Kinn took the Rising Star Award.
Long, director of Westbury Music, was added to the Women In Music Roll of Honour alongside Rebecca Allen, Decca Records’ managing director, Coda live agent Natasha Bent and nine others (full details below).
Elsewhere, the Media Pioneer gong was awarded to MOBO founder Kanya King, marking the first award ever given to her by the music industry.
She said in her acceptance speech: ‘I’ve dedicated my life to celebrating the excellence of other, so it’s humbling to receive this award. To any young female I would say, ‘Don’t strive to be a person of success, but a person of merit.”’
The Inspirational Artist Award went to Scottish singer songwriter KT Tunstall and Businesswoman Of The Year went to Nicola Tuer, chief operating officer of Sony Music UK.
The final accolade was the Outstanding Contribution Award, which went to WIN chief executive Alison Wenham.
The ceremony took place on 11 November at Kensington’s Royal Garden Hotel to celebrate the achievements of some of the most influential women in music.
It was hosted by Music Week and supported by UK Music and AIM.
